OK, I am going to Cali for the same time frame. I am going to cycle for two weeks in Colombia with Moraline. Crime is on the rise in Colombia, the state is falling apart. The cleansing blood of anarchy makes such a country pure.
We ride 125km north to Tulua the day after you arrive. We go to the Feria de Tulua. Of this city of 200,000 here are the important facts:
1. Located just three degrees north of the equator, the weather in Tuluá is very tropical, with hot, sunny days punctuated by intense storms. Temperatures average 28 degrees celsius and above. The nights are cool.
2. Crime is a big problem in Tuluá. According to press reports there have been several massacres in the city in 2010 and 2011, with gunmen using automatic rifles to fire indiscriminately at crowds of people. The surge in murders is allegedly due to rivaling paramilitary gangs Los Urabeños and Los Rastrojos fighting for control of the city's lucrative drug trade.
3. The Tuluá Festival (Feria de Tuluá) takes place every June in the second or third week. Music plays an important role with bands, artists and singers performing. A music performance is held every night.
4. Some famous beverages are the Chicha de maíz, Masato and Champús. Typical foods in the city are Sancocho, Morcilla or Rellena, Tamal and the like. This includes some sweet meals such as Desamargado (orange, lemon, pumpkin, grapefruit and early figs), Natilla (at Christmas time only) and Trasnochado (maize, cheese, yucca and arracacha).
I will familiarize myself with colloquialisms concerning my fucking up anyone who wants to fuck with me. But if I am chained to a shower curtain while cut in half by a chain saw (Scar Face), then I'll scream "Jesus Fucking Christ," should I last that long.
Tourists who avoid dangerous places lack respect for exploration. They admire well-paved trails, experiences which approximates simulacra. If I need to fight, and it's a fucking shame that they beat my ass well over than I am able to beat their asses, then I guess I die, and they bury me anonymously. That's one way to go.

Before arriving familiarize yourself with the term "prepago" and how to identify one, and steel your defenses against her.
