A seed planted by 4130: shame

Moraline and Chrome: aphorism or desk-sitting system building? Rigor? Rigor can happen by accident. Even the strongest minds fail when they aim for it.

Shame is a mode of being--it is an attitude or a dye that has colored the soul. One does not 'have' a 'shameful' experience. To identify one's mode of being in shame, to reflect on this shameful mode of being, objectifies one's shame, and turns it into something it is not in order to describe it. ("But how can anything be the subject of a discursive then?"-- one might ask.)

To acknowledge the shame is to take a reflective attitude. It is to get away from the shame by fleeing what is really going on. This does not mean shame cannot be had without reflection.

There is a shameful mode of being--one is non-positionally conscious of self as one is positionally conscious of whatever object of perception is related to the shame. One does not need to be confronted by others to feel this shame, and one need not reflect (take the self as an object) to be shameful. Language need not be present--one does not need to say to oneself--'this is wrong' (not wrong in the eyes of others, but wrong).

If shame can be a mode of being, unreflective, without language, not in the midst of others, how does shame, then, imply others?

Self-created shame, the sick feeling one is not pursuing one's project.

But the idea that there is an other created by our reflective attitudes--when we reflect on our self and attempt to take ourselves as an object--perhaps sheds some light here. A 'personality' is a fake thing, the result of reflection, a pile of objects we create to get away from ourselves and a response to fear and anxiety encountered by the apprehension of our freedom. Shame may well be a self-created remnant of the reflective attitude.

How is jealousy related to shame?
